Although the objective of soil movement is to improve the land for crop production, it can also have unintended and deleterious consequences. When soil is moved, its struc ture is broken and protective vegetation is buried. This leaves the soil more susceptible and exposed to the ero sive forces of wind and water. Wind and water erosion are unintended and unwanted forms of soil movement that can be caused by agricultural activities. They involve the detachment and transport of soil particles which may be deposited elsewhere within the field or beyond the boundaries of the field.
