Research Needs

Most research has been conducted in geomorphi-cally well-developed marshes protected from tidal erosion by artificial structures and dominated by robust colonial emergent plants such as cattail or reed. Research is needed to determine how marsh function varies in different geomorphic types, salinity regimes, soil types, and plant communities. Table 20.5 lists additional specific research questions that would improve the ability to manage Hudson River tidal wetlands for their ecosystem services and biodiversity resources.
