Resistance to tcdd and pcbs in killifish from the hudson river estuary

Killifish (mummichog) Fundulus heteroclitus is a very common, benthic species with a restricted home range, but a wide distribution in estuaries of eastern North America. Prince and Cooper (1995a,b) compared the sensitivity of killifish from Newark Bay to those from cleaner Tuckerton Harbor, New Jersey, to TCDD-caused lethality and induction of CYP1A expression. Killifish embryos and adults from the reference site were significantly more sensitive to lethality of waterborne and dermally applied TCDD than those from Newark Bay. In embryos and adults, there were no differences in TCDD absorption
