Application of LAI in Ecological Models

LAI is a required input to many ecological models that quantify terrestrial photosynthesis, hydrological balance, global carbon cycle, and climatic circulation processes. As an example, Table 2 shows several regional and global research programs that require LAI for agricultural, hydrological, or climatic research. In this table, horizontal resolution, observing cycle, accuracy, and lag of availability are all expressed as optimum/threshold values. LAI is applied in a variety of ways in different ecological models.
