AQ models have been developed in order to study the environmental field of interest, and with the aim to (1) better simulate the behavior of the atmospheric environment (in terms of assessing its quality via the calculation of concentration values), and to (2) model changes in relation to air quality management scenarios and measures. Although the basic science of AQ models has been addressed several decades ago, the life cycle of air pollution and its impacts on man and the ecosystem have broadened the modeling perspective per se, and has enriched the tools and methods applied toward efficient modeling and decision making in the atmospheric field. In addition, computer science, atmospheric science, and engineering developments have created new opportunities for further enrichment of the tools used, and for better modeling results.
