It is often considered that plants, as sessile organisms, may require more powerful adjustments and defenses against environmental challenges than animals that are typically endowed with mobility and thus with the option of moving to a less hostile environment. Beyond these obvious differences, however, lies a striking similarity in the underlying principles and responses that govern the physiological acclimation of plants and animals to the environment. While this article focuses on plant acclimation, these parallels as well as some differences will be noted throughout.
