The deposited particle mass is dominated by particles greater than 10 mm in diameter. Recently, several deposition studies have focused on simulating deposition processes for such particles. It was concluded that dry deposition models tend to underestimate this fraction. Therefore a model to predict dry deposition ofatmospheric coarse particles was developed for smooth horizontal surface. Sedimentation and inertia are the processes that govern the deposition of coarse particles.
The importance of the large-size fraction has also prompted the development of new sampling techniques for coarse particles.
