The evolution index is a rough estimation of evolution based on the number of families and the emergence of more and more developed species. Notice the Cambrian explosion, i.e. the fast increase in the evolution index around 500 Ma ago. It is also possible to see the decrease in the evolution index around 200 and 65 Ma ago due to massive extinction of many species, probably due to a catastrophic event.
