Collection Efficiency

Collection efficiency ^ is defined as the fraction of particles of any size that is collected by the cyclone. The plot of collection efficiency against particle diameter is called a fractional or grade efficiency curve.

Determining the path of the particles in the gas flow field is essential to estimate the collection efficiency. When all external forces except drag force are neglected, the equation of motion for a small particle is expressed in a Lagrangian frame of reference as:

dup dt dvp dt

CD^d2pp I (vp - v - v')lvp - v - v'l dwp = 2 "" dt 2 r vp
