Dimensions

The dimensions of a sedimentation basin must accommodate standard equipment supplied by the manufacturer. Also, environmental engineers must consider the size of the installation, local site conditions, regulations of local water pollution control agencies, the experience and judgment of the designer, and the economics of the system. Table 7.17.2 summarizes the basic dimensions of rectangular and circular clarifiers.

For any wastewater supply that requires coagulation and filtration to produce safe water, a minimum of two basins should be provided.
