Floatingpump Skimmers

Several types of floating-pump oil skimmers are on the market. Each model usually has a corrosion-resistant float filled with polyurethane, a peripheral overflow weir for oil, a small oil collection sump, and a low-head centrifugal pump. The discharge from the pump passes through a flexible hose to a tank located nearby. The drive is usually a gasoline-powered engine or an electrical motor. These lightweight skimmers allow easy movement from one location to another. Their biggest drawback is the 80 to 90% water concentration in the recovered oil. They can be purchased in sizes up to 500 gpm.
