If the extract from a representative waste sample contains any of the contaminants listed in Table 11.4.1 at a concentration equal to or greater than the respective value given, the waste exhibits the toxicity characteristic. Where the waste contains less than 0.5 percent filterable solids, the waste itself is considered to be the extract. A waste that exhibits the toxicity characteristic but is not a listed hazardous waste has the EPA hazardous waste number specified in Table 11.4.1. The TCLP test replaced the EP toxicity test in September 1990 and added 25 organic compounds to the eight metals and six pesticides that were subject to the EP toxicity test.
