Before designing the sludge monitoring installation, environmental engineers must answer two questions:
1. Is the information in the liquid or solid phase of the sludge?
2. Should the measurement be made online (in-place) or should a sample be delivered to the analyzer?
The answers to these questions will direct the environmental engineer to the correct installation.
