The main limitation of venturi tubes is cost, both for the tube itself and often for the long piping required for the larger sizes. However, the energy cost savings attributable to their higher pressure recovery and reduced pressure loss usually justify the use of venturi tubes in larger pipes.
Another limitation is the high minimum Reynolds number required to maintain accuracy. For venturis and flow tubes, this minimum is around 100,000; while for flow
