Uctvip Processes

Parts d and e in Figure 7.38.8 are schematic diagrams of the UCT and VIP processes. The flow arrangement of the two processes is identical except that the VIP process is partitioned in the anaerobic, anoxic, and oxic zones. Both processes discharge RAS into the anoxic zone instead of the anaerobic zone to avoid the detrimental effects of re cycling NOx-N on biological phosphorus removal. An additional return stream recycles MLSS from the end of the anoxic zone to the anaerobic zone. Currently, only one installation in the United States uses these processes.
